The Buyer Portal: Secure by Design

The Buyer Portal is built to be significantly more secure than traditional e-wallets. Shoppers don't have to enter, store, or manage any sensitive data that isn't relevant to the purchase. No logins, no passwords, and no banking details.

Let’s take a closer look at data handling and why the Buyer Portal offers a clear security advantage for merchants and shoppers.

Did you know that this is part 4 of our Buyer Portal series? You can find the first part here.

Nothing but the most relevant data

Unlike conventional e-wallets, the Buyer Portal requires only data that is absolutely necessary for payment, delivery, or returns.

This means:

  1. Seamless access via link: After making the purchase, customers receive a unique permalink by email. It allows them to access their order summary right away, without needing an account, login, or password.
  2. Security as priority: Navigation is protected with randomized security prompts. More sensitive information, such as the shipping address, can only be viewed after successful authentication.
  3. No unnecessary data: Only data relevant to payment is requested and stored.
  4. Payment without sensitive banking details: While shoppers find all the necessary payment information in the Buyer Portal, the transaction itself takes place via their preferred banking or payment app.

This approach minimizes risks and reduces potential fraud scenarios considerably.

Let’s take a closer look at the four points above.

1. Seamless access via link

The access link sent via email remains active – even after payment. This means shoppers can view both pending and completed orders anytime, without needing an account.

Alternatively, they can directly access the Buyer Portal homepage. After successfully entering the reference number, they’ll be taken immediately to the order overview.

This enables a clearer overview of all transactions shoppers have made in your online store.

2. Randomized security prompts

To ensure sensitive data remains protected, the Buyer Portal displays security prompts at relevant places. Users must answer these to continue navigating or view more detailed information.

The result: minimized risks and maximum protection without interruption of the user journey.

Let's take an example:

''

1

To view additional order details, shoppers select “View more information”. A personalized security prompt appears.
''

2

Random security prompt: Confirm your date of birth. Only after successfully entering this information will the next step occur.
''

3

The security prompt was successful! Now additional personal details and information can be viewed.

3. Not relevant? Not necessary.

A snapshot of the data available in the Buyer Portal includes:

  1. Personal order history
  2. Multiple shipment overview
  3. Detailed overview of the respective order
  4. Merchant data required for the transaction
  5. Personal data for shipping and returns

No additional information is required for processing shipping and transactions. Hence, it is not stored in the Buyer Portal.

4. Simple payment without sensitive (bank) information

While the Buyer Portal contains important order information, transactions are processed via the shoppers' preferred payment or banking app.

This means they never have to enter sensitive banking or account details into the portal. After all, what isn't stored can't be compromised.

The practical QR code makes the transaction process even more intuitive: simply scan and pay directly. No need to manually enter an IBAN or payment reference.

On top of that, the Buyer Portal is extremely convenient for returns. The amount due adjusts automatically and in real time, including an instantly updated QR code.

You can read more about this in our article “Seamless returns with the Payment Calculator”.

Conclusion

The Buyer Portal combines minimal data collection with a seamless, intuitive user experience. And as a result, it meets the highest security standards, reduces potential risks, and ensures a clear, trustworthy shopping experience at every step.

For merchants, this means fewer vulnerabilities, less support work, and a secure, seamless payment process, all in their own brand’s look and feel.
